About Us

Clare and Larry Hayes opened Hayes Nursery on Mothers’ Day weekend in 1987 with colorful fuchsia baskets, premium trees and shrubs, and dreams to create Issaquah’s garden inspiration. They envisioned Hayes Nursery as a place where gardeners could find everything they need for successful projects – great ideas, beautiful healthy plants, and expert assistance.

An avid plant lover with horticulture training, Clare initially focused on the plant collection while Larry used his building expertise to bring their vision to reality. Family, friends, staff and fellow nursery owners all helped the small store at the foot of Tiger Mountain grow into a destination nursery with greenhouses, a gift and home décor shop, pond supplies, and extensive display gardens.

Our Staff

The true heart of Hayes Nursery is our talented, friendly staff. Most have been helping our customers with garden design, plant selection, and care advice for 6 to 18 years, building lasting friendships along with beautiful landscapes.

Our senior pro, Susan, leads the perennial, annual and gift buying team in keeping our plant and gift selections exciting and dynamic. Each season they fill the nursery with the best of new plant varieties, as well as stylish gift and décor items.

Our core staff members, including Susan, Sara, Mike, Clare, Janel and Nora, are Certified Professional Horticulturalists, which requires many hours of rigorous study, testing and experience. They are constantly updating their knowledge so they can continue to offer customers in-depth, accurate advice on all gardening issues. Our other staff members expect to become certified shortly.
